Tutorial 1, April 2001 - Using Word to Manage Bulk E-mailing

Step 3a. Merge Customer Detail Information-Select Data Source 

Once you created your e-mail body, you're ready for the tricky part - merging the customer detail information with the body of your e-mail. The surprising part is - it's not really that tricky!

First, make sure the document containing the body of the e-mail is open. Then, from the Tools menu select Mail Merge... (see Diagram 1 below)

From the Mail Merge Helper dialogue box, select Create>Form Letters (see Diagram 2)

Select Active Window from the pop-up (see Diagram 3):

Next, from the Mail Merge Helper, click Get Data to choose where your customer details are coming from (Diagram 4):

Select Open Data Source... from the drop down box (Diagram 5).

Browse until you find the file that contains the customer detail information you setup in Step 1.
